CANCER. A six-letter word that changes too many peoples’ lives.
We all know someone we have lost to cancer, or someone who has been fortunate enough to beat cancer — ALL OF US know someone. There are many groups, organizations, and events to help fight that fight — MORE THAN A GAME (MTAG) is one where the money stays where the efforts were made — LOCALLY.
MORE THAN A GAME
The purpose of More Than a Game (MTAG) is to raise money and awareness to fight cancer locally and to help local hospitals and cancer centers with assistance through money raised. MTAG will accomplish this by creating athletic and other events to generate interest in the local communities.
IN THE BEGINNING
MTAG was first created when an agreement with the Foundation for Upstate (Syracuse, NY). MTAG would begin creating events to raise money and awareness for the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital. Those events were established in Section 3. As that grew, the Foundation for Upstate requested that MTAG become involved in the capital campaign for the new Upstate Cancer Center. As more Section 3 schools got involved in the cause, MTAG simultaneously teams up with the Golisano Children’s Hospital at Strong (Rochester, NY) to duplicate raising money and awareness in Section 5.
MTAG is always looking to grow and help to continue the mission of raising money and awareness to fight cancer locally and to help local hospitals and cancer centers. Recently, MTAG teamed up with the Wilmot Cancer Center (Rochester, NY) to add to the options that teams and schools of Section 5 can donate to.
New to the 2017-2018 school year, MTAG agreed to expand in the Fort Myers and Naples, FL area by teaming up with Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida (Fort Myers, FL). This will again use the tools that have been created to raise money locally and duplicate the success already seen in New York.
