January 25th was just your ordinary Saturday afternoon across New York State – but if you happen to travel down the Thruway and got off at the Westmoreland exit, something special was going on at their high school….

Not just 4 basketball games in a row – but four games fighting cancer one game at a time. HOOPS FOR THE HOSPITAL event at Westmoreland included admission to the game, 50/50, a chance to win $10,000 at half time, bake sale, raffles and over 30 girls collecting pledges and sponsors – all raised money to give to the Golisano Children’s Hospital.

The day started with 5th and 6th graders playing the first game – then the rivalry day started against Oriskany – the modified played followed by the JV game and the night concluded with the Varsity teams competing.  The Varsity girls from Westmoreland came out of the tunnel in their MTAG pink uniforms.

The night was what an entire community can do when they all come together to fight something that has effected almost everyone, some way, some how.

Hanging in the gym is the 2018-19 “MTAG Champions” banner from what they community did last year – over $10,000 – and that will now be updated with additional numbers – “2019-20”

Coach Jerrid Otis and the girls basketball program you are an amazing group – from MTAG we say “Thank you!!”
