Tuesday night (Sept 26th) the girls’ soccer matches at West Genesee had a little more meaning then just the final score.  The West Genesee JV and Varsity teams made a difference.  In their matches against FM it served as a fundraiser for More Than a Game Foundation with proceeds going to the Upstate Cancer Center and Golisano Childrens Hospital. Each West Genesee player made donations and fans were making donations at the gate.

The West Genesee JV and Varsity team has elected to wear a light blue shirt to represent the fight against prostate cancer. Current West Genese Coach Steve Yarnell battled and defeated prostate cancer last year,  attending daily treatments only to rush over to practice to be with the team. His incredibly upbeat personality has served as a shining example to the players of what can be accomplished through mental toughness and a positive attitude. The West Genesee team thanked him for all he has taught the coaches and players about life and overcoming adversity.

From More Than a Game …Thank you Coach Yarnell.
